Born in a Cave in the Texas Hill Country
Born out of the Austin Hill Country and inspired by The Roaring ’20s, Crystal Creek Moonshine brings a new twist to an American classic. Distilling the highest quality of 'shine made from Texas grown ingredients creates a unique taste that is perfect for drinking on the rocks or in almost any combination of mixed drink
Our original moonshine starts out like a vodka and finishes like a whiskey. At 40% ABV it lends its self perfectly to both classic and unique cocktails. If you like Sex on the Beach, you've got to try Sex on the Moon!
Our infusions are all created using REAL ingredients sources as locally as we can find them. None of our infusions are designed to mask our liquor but instead to compliment it.
More than just the shine
Shane (co-founder & chief of mooning) was struck by the poverty he witnessed in rural Ethiopia. He has made five subsequent visits in an effort to help, yet felt that this simply wasn’t enough. He knew that there had to be a way to help more people. When Sam (co-founder, master mooner) proposed the idea of the two of them opening a distillery together, social responsibility was on the top of the agenda. The idea snowballed from there and the means of helping out on a larger scale became apparent.
Five percent of each bottle sold is donated to an Austin-based charity called, A Glimmer of Hope. The donated money is then used to build clean drinking water wells in Ethiopia.

Sam Wakefield: Co-founder, Master Mooner
This wild specimen is vital to our team. Inspired by the surge of craft spirits, and missing the environment of his former brewery job in Boulder, CO, Sam brought the idea of distilling America’s classic spirit to Shane, and it snowballed from there. You usually find him at the distillery re-purposing pallets.
Shane Berber: Co-founder, Chief of Mooning
This rare and beautiful creature is a true asset. Inspired to make an impact by a visit to Ethiopia, the distilling came naturally. Shane likes to work hard and play hard, so keep an eye out for him when downtown in Austin after the bats have taken flight.
